MARKET STATISTICS

  • More than 3,400 adult day centers are currently operating in the United States. ¹
  • One quarter of the participants live alone and three-quarters live with a spouse, adult children, or other family and friends.
  • Nearly one out of every four U.S. households (23 percent, or 22.4 million) provides care to a relative or friend. ¹
  • The average age of the adult day consumer is 72, and two-thirds of all participants and women. ¹
  • Daily fees for services are almost always less than a home health visit and about half the cost of a skilled nursing facility. Daily fees for adult day services vary depending upon the services provided. Daily national average fee for adult day services is $61 per day. 
Elder Day Club- $66 per day (8 hours)
Assisted Living:  $100-200 per day ($149 per day average)
Nursing Homes:  $166-266 per day ($216 per day average)
Home Health Aide:  $152 per day (8 hours)
  • About 13.3 million people -- seven percent of U.S. adults -- are spouses or adult children of disabled older people and have the potential responsibility for their care. Of these, about 85 percent (or 11.4 million) are adult children.

Objective: Discuss Linear Time vs. Spiritual Time in dealing with dementia.   Differentiate between the benefits and burdens of these time frames.  Discuss strategies to assist patient and family and caregivers to enhance communication in understanding.

Bio:  Rev. Brian-Bagley Bonner is currently the Spiritual Care Counselor for Hospice of the Western Reserve.  He has over 12 years of work as a local Church Pastor and Spiritual Care Coordinator working with families, facility staff and patients who are living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
